2025 Dig-In Internship Program Recap
At HGC, we believe that building careers starts with building opportunities. This summer, our 2025 HGC Dig-In Construction Internship Program welcomed a group of students eager to get their boots dirty and dive into the construction industry. From safety training to mentorship in the field, they experienced what it truly means to work in the dirt world—and we couldn’t be prouder of all they accomplished.
Meet Our 2025 Dig-In Interns
Meet this summer’s interns Adam, Jhon, and Elian! 👋 This trio joined us ready to learn, and throughout the summer they gained hands-on experience in mass grading, utilities, and concrete work along with other skills that are part of our construction internship. Each intern followed an individualized learning path, but together they shared the goal of developing real-world skills that will set them up for success in the construction industry.
Training That Builds Confidence
Before heading into the field, the interns were introduced to equipment simulators—a safe way to learn the basics of operating equipment. These trainings allowed them to get comfortable with controls and operations before beginning on-site training where they operated equipment with the guidance of Field Coach John Sprouse. The interns shared that the simulator time helped them feel more prepared, and by the time they were in the field, they already had a strong foundation to build on.
This approach—start with simulation, then move into live training—is one of the ways HGC ensures interns feel confident, capable, and safe.
A Construction Internship Program Designed for Growth
Our Dig-In Internship Program is built to provide students with meaningful exposure to the construction industry. Every intern experienced:
- 5-day orientation and safety training as the foundation for their summer.
- Hands-on field work across resource groups like grading, utilities, concrete, etc.
- Ride-alongs and job shadowing with experienced HGC leaders.
- Regular check-ins with the Team Development Group.
- An exit interview to share feedback and shape future programs.
This balance of structure and flexibility allows students to see multiple sides of construction, all while gaining practical skills that will benefit them throughout their career.
Mentorship That Makes a Difference
One of the most valuable parts of the HGC internship experience is the mentorship that comes from working directly with our dedicated leaders. This summer, superintendents like Pedro and Kyle invested time and energy into guiding interns, modeling expectations, answering questions, and demonstrating what leadership in the field looks like.
Mentorship gives interns more than technical knowledge—it helps them understand how to problem-solve, communicate, and lead with confidence. The one-on-one guidance makes all the difference when it comes to preparing students for a career in construction.

The 2025 Dig-In Internship Program gave Adam, Jhon, and Elian the chance to grow, learn, and take the first steps toward successful careers in construction. From simulator training to real-world fieldwork and mentorship to our culture grounded in our core values, the interns experienced what makes HGC unique.
We’re proud of their progress, grateful for the leaders who invested in them, and excited about their future in the industry. Jhon has joined our Utility Pipeline Program. Adam and Elian have begun their studies in construction management and technology with an interest in returning to HGC.
