Two HGC Hispanic Teammates

HGC Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month 2025

Each year from September 15 through October 15, Hispanic Heritage Month gives us the opportunity to recognize the culture, history, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities across the United States. At Hoopaugh Grading Company (HGC), we’re proud to celebrate this month by honoring the many Hispanic teammates whose skills, dedication, and perspectives have shaped both our company and the construction industry as a whole. Hispanic Heritage Month 2025 is a special time for us.

This celebration isn’t just about looking back at history — it’s about acknowledging the impact happening right now. Hispanic culture is deeply woven into the foundation of construction, and at HGC, we see firsthand how our Hispanic teammates strengthen our teams, improve communication, and help us continue building a safer, more innovative workplace.

The Role of Hispanic Communities in Construction

Across the country, Hispanic workers are the backbone of the construction industry. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, nearly one-third of all construction workers identify as Hispanic or Latino, bringing not only their hard work and technical expertise but also a culture rooted in community, family, and resilience.

At HGC, that national story is also our story. Our Hispanic teammates play essential roles across the company — from equipment operators and safety trainers to Superintendents and Foremen leading jobsites. Their contributions aren’t just about completing projects; they’re about building a culture of respect, integrity, and doing what it takes.

Building Bridges Through Bilingual Leadership

Construction is all about communication. Whether it’s a safety briefing, technical training, or jobsite instructions, clarity is non-negotiable. That’s why HGC is committed to providing resources that ensure every teammate can thrive — regardless of the language they speak.

    • Spanish-speaking orientation and onboarding: From the very first day, new hires have access to Spanish-speaking recruiters and orientation sessions that set them up for success.

    • Bilingual leadership: Many of our Admin, Safety Trainers, Foremen, and Superintendents are fluent in Spanish, helping eliminate communication barriers and reinforcing our commitment to safety.

    • Inclusive training programs: The HGC Academy offers industry-leading training, with classes, videos, and simulations available in both English and Spanish. This ensures every teammate has equal access to learning opportunities, no matter their background.

One of our Bilingual Safety Trainers shared, It’s not just about compliance — it’s about creating an environment where teammates feel supported and empowered to succeed. When communication is clear, everyone wins.

Investing in Teammates, Investing in the Future

At HGC, we recognize that growth doesn’t stop at hiring. That’s why we’ve built programs that help teammates develop new skills, earn certifications, and advance in their careers. Our Hispanic teammates are a big part of this success story.

        • Green Hard Hat Program: Provides hands-on training for new hires to help them feel confident and prepared on the job.

        • HGC Academy: Launched in 2020, our Academy offers more than 100 classes covering jobsite safety, equipment operation, and leadership development. With state-of-the-art simulators and bilingual trainers, it’s a resource designed for everyone.

        • Mentorship and advancement: Many of our Hispanic teammates who started in entry-level roles are now thriving as leaders, setting an example for future generations in the industry.

This cycle of growth not only strengthens HGC but also supports the broader construction industry by building a skilled, diverse workforce for years to come.

Celebrating Hispanic Culture at HGC

Hispanic Heritage Month isn’t just about statistics and training — it’s about people. At HGC, we see the value of Hispanic culture in the teamwork, passion, and dedication our teammates bring every day. From sharing traditions that build stronger connections on jobsites to demonstrating resilience in tough situations, our Hispanic teammates embody values that make HGC better.

Their influence stretches beyond work, shaping the culture of our company in countless ways:

  • A deep emphasis on family and community that fosters stronger team bonds.

  • A commitment to hard work and perseverance that raises the standard of excellence.

  • A spirit of collaboration that drives creativity and problem-solving.

These qualities not only make our projects successful but also create a workplace where teammates feel proud to belong.
