With our cutting-edge LiDAR drone technology, robotic total stations, digital levels, and GPS-integrated equipment, HGC’s surveying services help eliminate delays, reduce costly rework, and deliver exceptional results—down to the tenth of an inch.
Integrated Surveying
Our licensed surveyors, CAD technicians, and drone pilots work directly alongside HGC’s construction teams to keep every layout precise and every phase on track—eliminating third-party delays and maximizing efficiency from day one.
Real-Time Coordination
With models, staking, and topo updates produced in-house, there’s no gap between field crews and survey teams. You get real-time answers and layout support that keeps your site moving forward without hesitation.
Ongoing Accuracy
Through monthly drone topo flights, continuous GPS model updates, and responsive re-staking, our team monitors elevation, grade, and material volumes with tenth-of-an-inch precision—ensuring your site stays on spec.
Tailored Support for Every Site
Whether it’s a 5-acre pad or a 100-acre phased development, we align our survey strategy to your site’s specific needs—adjusting frequency, equipment, and support based on your schedule, goals, and complexity.
Establish Control
After the project is awarded, our team sets permanent benchmarks on site to maintain consistent horizontal and vertical references throughout the project.
Define Clearing Limits
We survey and mark the property’s boundaries and tree-save areas to clearly define the limits of disturbance for clearing and grading crews.
Verify Existing Conditions
LiDAR and photometric drone surveys capture detailed topographic data to compare existing site conditions against design plans.
Build GPS Machine Models
Our CAD team transforms plan files into 3D models for use in GPS-equipped dozers, graders, curb machines, and more—ensuring machine accuracy.
Stake and Layout
From grading to utilities to walls and curbs, our field crews provide ongoing physical staking and layout support with tenth-of-an-inch precision.
Final As-Builts & Topos
At project closeout, we deliver verified as-built documentation and final topographic surveys, ensuring compliance with engineering requirements.
By using the latest technology, HGC Survey Department meets the needs of the company and clients to the highest standards around.
Inside Our Survey Team
When you partner with HGC, you get direct access to a fully integrated surveying team—including licensed surveyors, CAD specialists, drone operators, and on-site field crews—all working in sync to support your project. By keeping everything in-house, we eliminate handoffs and miscommunication, delivering faster response times, greater accuracy, and confident execution from initial layout to final as-builts.

CAD Team
Transforms engineering plans into 3D models used by GPS-enabled machines. Maintains up-to-date surfaces for layout, grading, and progress tracking throughout the project lifecycle.
GPS Program Manager
Manages GPS model uploads to field equipment, supports field crews with GPS troubleshooting, and ensures layout data is correctly applied to real-world conditions.
Survey Data Tech
Assists with model checks, makes real-time adjustments based on drone topo updates or field changes, and supports the transition between CAD and survey teams.
Unmanned Team
Certified drone pilots who operate HGC’s LiDAR and photometric drones. They collect high-precision aerial data to verify grades, calculate earthwork volumes, and support topo documentation.
Unmanned Technicians
Support drone operations by managing flight data, maintaining drone equipment, and processing imagery for use in CAD models and client-facing reporting.
Survey Team
Handles all on-site layout and verification. From initial benchmarks to final as-builts, this team ensures every stake and measurement is exactly where it needs to be.
Crew Chiefs
Lead individual survey crews in the field. Responsible for supervising layout accuracy, coordinating with superintendents, and keeping field operations efficient and on schedule.
Survey Assistants
Support Crew Chiefs with physical staking, layout prep, and data collection. Often the first boots on the ground, helping maintain precision and productivity throughout the job site.

Why does HGC keep surveying in-house?
Hoopaugh Grading Company keeps surveying in-house to maintain accuracy, efficiency, and control over every phase of the project. By using our own skilled survey crews, we ensure consistent quality, faster turnaround times, and real-time communication between surveyors and project managers—helping your project stay on grade and on schedule.
Do you offer surveying for outside projects?
No, we do not take on one-off survey projects. Our survey team works closely with our project teams and clients, and their services are offered within the scope of our comprehensive and customized site packages.
How fast can you get a survey crew on-site?
We understand that timely surveying is critical to keeping construction projects on track. HGC can typically mobilize a survey crew to your site quickly—often within a few days—depending on project scope, location, and current scheduling. Our in-house team allows us to respond faster than third-party providers.
What types of equipment do you use and why?
Hoopaugh Grading Company’s in-house survey team uses industry-leading technology to deliver precise and efficient results on every project. Our equipment includes:
- Advanced GPS surveying systems for accurate layout and staking.
- High-resolution drones for topographic mapping, aerial imagery, and 3D modeling.
- Robotic total stations for precise measurements and layout in complex site conditions.
- State-of-the-art BIM modeling software to integrate survey data into project planning.
- Data collection tools for accurate as-built documentation of grading, utilities, and site features.
By combining traditional surveying tools with modern drone and GPS technology, our survey team can capture, analyze, and deliver the most accurate data possible—keeping your project on grade and on schedule.
What happens if the survey finds an issue on the job?
If our survey team identifies an issue on the jobsite, HGC immediately works with our project management and field teams to correct it. Our in-house surveyors can recheck the area, adjust staking, and provide updated grading plans to ensure compliance with project specifications—minimizing delays and keeping your project on track.
