2. What qualifications do I need for an entry-level position at HGC?
For most entry-level positions at HGC, the following qualifications are required:
- Must be 18 years of age
- Must be able to pass E-Verify (authorized to work in the U.S)
- Must have reliable transportation
- Must pass a drug screening & remain drug-free while employed
- Must pass a background check
- Must be able to travel up to 65 miles
- Must be able to work 7:00am to 5:30pm Monday through Friday, and some Saturdays

While specific certifications are not required for entry-level positions, having relevant training can be beneficial. HGC also provides a comprehensive 4-day orientation and on-the-job training to help new field teammates become familiar with the company. The Team Development Group (TDG) continuously monitors the progress and performance of new hires and coordinates additional trainings to gain skills and certifications to help you succeed.

5. What are the working hours and conditions like for entry-level positions?
Construction work at HGC typically follows a standard schedule, but hours can vary based on the weather and on project needs. Teammates should be prepared for:
- All teammates arrive to their jobsite by 6:45 AM.
- Each day begins with a morning safety meeting at 7 AM.
- There is a 1-hour lunch break from 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM.
- The work day typically ends at 5:30 PM.
- Some job sites and/or crews are required to work on Saturdays which typically follow a 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM schedule.
- Work is performed outdoors and teammates may be exposed to the elements, including rain, mud, dust, heat, and more depending on the time of year.
- Working in the construction industry requires physical demands, such as being exposed to varying levels of noise commonly found on job sites.

HGC provides a competitive benefits package that includes:
- Steady and Reliable Pay: Every hourly teammate is eligible to receive a minimum of 35 hours each week, regardless of weather, job site conditions, or changes in the economy or market. Entry-level positions begin at $16/hour. However, pay is determined on an individual basis based on experience and skill level.
- Stay Close To Home: Our job sites are located within a 65-mile radius of the HGC Main office in Charlotte, NC. This footprint allows you to be home every night.
- Health Insurance: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage as well as an Employee Assistance Program. For teammates on our health insurance plan, our partnership with Tryon Direct allows you to receive free primary care.
- Retirement Plans: Employer sponsored 401(k).
- Paid Time Off After 90 Days: 9 vacation days, 40 hours of paid time off (PTO), and 30 hours that can be used for personal appointments or sick leave.
