HGC’s Commitment to Safety Month: June 2024 Recap
At HGC, safety is not just a policy—it’s our top priority. Our commitment to ensuring the well-being of our teammates, partners, and clients on every job site is unwavering. Our goal is to ensure that everyone goes home in the same condition they arrived, every single day. This June, in celebration of National Safety Month, we dedicated the entire month to reinforcing our safety culture through a series of engaging and informative events.
Celebrating Safety at The HGC Academy
Throughout June, we hosted seven cookouts at The HGC Academy, serving all 725+ teammates. These gatherings were more than just a chance to celebrate our team and enjoy good food—they were an opportunity to reinforce our commitment to safety and highlight some of our most critical protocols.
Safety Month Prizes
At each cookout, every teammate received special safety-themed prizes:
- A safety vest koozie
- A safety vest koozie
- An HGC American Flag sticker for their hardhat
- A hart hat sticker featuring a QR code to valuable mental health resources for themselves and others around them
Safety Talks
Our safety team delivered insightful speeches covering four critical safety topics:
- Hand Safety
- Feet Safety
- Back Safety
- Hydration
*With the summer heat rising, the emphasis on hydration was especially pertinent, reminding everyone to stay hydrated and safe on the job.
Health Discussions with Medical Partners
We were privileged to have our medical partners join us at the cookouts to discuss essential health topics:
Cigna Health Coach
Our on-site Health Coach, Nurse Kelly, from Cigna spoke about mental health, physical health, and how to effectively utilize HGC benefits. She also engaged with the team before and after each cookout by sharing health and wellness materials and offering on-site blood pressure readings.
Tryon Medical Partners
Allison from Tryon Direct explained the benefits of partnering with Tryon Medical Partners and how HGC’s collaboration provides free preventative healthcare. She also facilitated immediate sign-ups for eligible teammates for swift access to medical care.
Empowering Messages from Leadership
Our Executive Leadership Team took turns addressing the team at each cookout. They thanked the team for their hard work and commitment to excellence and emphasized the importance of safety on the job site. They also reminded everyone that, as HGC teammates, they are empowered to halt any unsafe practices. This empowerment is crucial in maintaining our high safety standards and efficiency.
Honoring Our Safety Champs
A highlight of the cookouts was recognizing our annual Safety Champs—individuals who exemplify outstanding safety practices in their respective areas. These winners were selected based on their impeccable safety records and their teams’ efficiency and incident-free performance over the past year.
Awards were given in three categories:
INO MEDINA

PEDRO FUNES

DARREN LAFEVERS
FINE GRADING
Safety Month at HGC was a resounding success, reinforcing our commitment to safety through education, recognition, and empowerment. By continuously fostering a culture of safety, we ensure that our team, partners, and clients remain safe every day. As we move forward, we carry the lessons and spirit of Safety Month with us, dedicated to maintaining the highest safety standards in all the work we perform.
